I realize this is about far more than just matt, but the issues of intolerance and inequality disgust me and this article makes me angry and sad.

Wow those examples are awful (not surprising given Hollywood's reputation as being pro prejudice, but still awful). I'm glad that guy called out the Matt Bomer example publicly.

ditto - brave of him to speak publicly.

I get the point that coming out for successful people set an exemple, for other gay people, and for the rest of world, showing that gays are just like everyone else, etc...

But at the same time, it still annoys me that they'd pressure gay actors to come out. It's their private life. We don't ask straight actors to justify their orientation, or who they're dating. So why gay actors should make any statement?

Yes! I'm impressed with any who do but not everyone is that brave, or even overt. live and let live, people. come on.

Sadly, it's not gonna change any time soon /o\ It's infuriating and sad ... thought I think that Matt has wiped the floor with the kinds like these asshats by shining like the brightest start this past weekend in Cannes :)

oh, I'm certain he does need a break after this grand TNG tour, hee... but he also said in the facebook live interview that he is game for more AHS but probably won't be available for as many eps as last season because he will be filming The Last Tycoon through the summer... which kinda means TLT got picked up for a full season :D

I think at this point he has nothing to worry about :D

IT is sad we are so we are so obsessed with a person sexual orientation. It is something private and is not any indicator to the competence(that should be the only barameter). It is also infuriating to see gays being caricatured in popular media it can make one cringe.

Sadly it does matter being gay is still outlawed in far too many countries.

I was at a Prague Book festival last Friday, and there were some free sci-fi&fantasy journals that I don't usually buy. I though, what the heck, let's check it out, maybe they're interesting. The journal wasn't anything special, but it was okay... up until almost the last page. There was a short list of gay Hollywood actors, aka "Five *** idols of girls and women". Apparently, Neil Patrick Harris is a "pathological fucker"; Wentworth Miller would enjoy being in prison IRL because all gay men would love some prison rape; Matt is "girly" and "it's crazy how many ***s must live here on Earth, otherwise he could have never been on the pages of Vogue and Elle"... and let's not go into what they wrote about Richard Chamberlain. Suffice to say, won't be buying this crap anytime in the next century or ten.

Still, in a world where homophobia is even now a very real and very painful problem, the fact that anyone can blame the actors for not coming out is honestly beyond me.

wtf... and this was published?

Sadly, yes.
The journal isn't all that popular (google says it was actually calcelled for two months or so in 2013, before a new owner bought it). Also, it was published in this new "controversy column" (started in January), which, from what I understand, is supposed to be "funny", but in reality is filled with all kinds of vile crap, tageting anyone and everyone. It's also apparently been protested by a lot of readers, so hopefully they'll cancel it eventually... but the fact alone that this can still get published (even in a small journal) is pretty terrible, especially given that these sorts of periodics are often read by teenagers.
Lovely stuff :/

Unfortunately, unless those readers boycott altogether, it'll keep happening. Ugh, and this is just one example.

True, but given that this is one of the two Czech sci-fi/fantasy journals (or at least I haven't heard of any others), I don't see enough people boycotting it to make the editors stop :(

Coming in late to comment; I've been playing "Mom's taxi" for the last two days with the graduate student. O.o

Anyway. Yes. Just so much yes to what you and others have said. It sickens and saddens me how much stupid exists in this world, and this is but another example. I love how Matt says it about how we just don't actually need to label anyone. I don't walk around thinking about my sexuality all the time, so why is it "acceptable" (according to some, obviously) for anyone to debate/analyze/discuss someone else's?? Obviously, not everyone does, but the fact that studio execs act like they did, etc., is more than enough to show why marriage equality just isn't "enough." Since I've been in the car so much the last couple days, I've heard "Same Love" from my playlist multiple times, and I just keep thinking of that one line about: "It's human rights for everyone, there **is no difference.**" <3 <3 <3
